If you shared your banking system with read & write access — with an individual advisor or with a whole practice — they can complete details on records you already track. This article explains exactly what they can and cannot change, and where your controls live.
What a practice can complete
On a liability you already track, your advisor (or a team member at a practice you shared with) can fill in contract terms: the lender, original amount, rate and rate type, term, amortization, monthly payment, credit limit, extra principal, and origination date. Completing these makes Debt Payoff Path usable without a back-and-forth over paperwork.
What stays yours
- Identity and status. A liability's name, type, status, and your notes can only be changed by you.
- Connected balances. If a liability's balance comes from a connected institution, nobody can retype it — the institution's figure stands.
- New records. An advisor cannot add a new liability directly to your records. Anything new is prepared for your review and is only recorded when you confirm it.
Liabilities your advisor prepares
Your advisor can prepare liabilities for you to review — for example, from a list you shared before you connected, or details they hold from working with you. Prepared entries are not part of your records: they appear on your dashboard marked "Prepared by your advisor", and nothing is recorded until you confirm. You are notified when something is waiting for your review.
Confirming records them as liabilities you own — every detail stays editable afterward, exactly like anything you enter yourself. If you decline, nothing is recorded and your advisor is told; they can update a prepared entry and share it with you again.
