The Add Asset wizard's Cash flow history & outlook step uses one dated timeline for two purposes: establishing periods that already happened and recording what is expected going forward.
Where It Lives
Open Capital -> Assets -> Add asset. The current wizard has eight progress steps:
Type -> Details -> Value -> Funding -> Recurring -> Cash flow -> Owner -> Documents
Cash flow is Step 6. The separate Recurring step appears only for retirement accounts, brokerage accounts, crypto wallets, and cash/savings accounts.
Add a Cash Flow Period
For each period, record:
- A start date
- An end date, or Ongoing
- The amount
- Weekly, biweekly, monthly, quarterly, semiannual, or annual frequency
Use Add a cash flow change when the amount or cadence changed over time. For example, one period can describe a prior lease and a second ongoing period can describe the current lease.
Past and Future Mean Different Things
- Dates before today establish cash-flow history that can be backfilled with the amounts actually received.
- An ongoing period or future end date defines the expected outlook.
- Expected this month is a Modeled monthly equivalent based on the active period. It is not an Actual receipt.
